Smart Thermostatic Switch

One shared faceplate platform, wired for AC or DC. Crystal glass or Classic metal on top — the same fan-coil, valve and temperature control underneath, a different finish for the room.

One electronic platform

A shared back-unit. A faceplate you choose per room.

Every thermostat is built from two parts. The back-unit is the part that goes into the wall box and decides how it’s powered, wired and which loads it drives. The faceplate is what the room sees — and it doesn’t change the control logic underneath.

Step 1 — pick the back-unit
  • AC back-unit (APX-TCA) — 3-speed fan-coil outputs plus a valve output
  • DC back-unit (APX-CD) — low-voltage, dry-contact inputs, no local relay outputs
  • Every back-unit takes either an external NTC 10K probe or an external IR probe — the accessory is model-specific, not interchangeable
+
Step 2 — pick the faceplate
  • Crystal — glass finish, four fixed touch positions with interchangeable icons
  • Classic — metal finish, fixed icon layout
  • Same 86 × 86 mm mechanical footprint either way, with a digital temperature display on both

Thermostat intelligence

Six things every CAN thermostat does.

Regardless of finish or back-unit, every SmartAPEX CAN thermostat shares the same six capabilities.

Integrated temperature sensor

Onboard room-temperature monitoring on every thermostat, selected as the default reading source.

Selectable temperature source

On standard models, touch and hold the two upper buttons for 6 seconds to switch between internal and external NTC sensing. Not available on -IR models.

Firmware update over CAN-BUS

Serviced through a compatible SmartAPEX CAN controller — no faceplate removal required.

3-speed fan-coil + valve

AC back-unit: Q1 low, Q2 medium and Q3 high fan outputs, plus a dedicated Q4 valve output.

Model-specific accessory

Standard models take an external NTC 10K probe; -IR models take an external IR probe instead — never both on the same unit.

Shared 86 × 86 mm faceplate

Crystal and Classic faceplates use the same mechanical platform as the SmartAPEX keypad line.

Configurable icon presentation

Make every touch position clear.

Personalization at your fingertips: the four Crystal icon positions are interchangeable, with alternative icons available via the SmartAPEX icon-selection sheet before ordering.

Model-specific, not interchangeable: standard models take an external NTC 10K probe; models ending in -IR take an external IR probe instead — connect only the accessory supported by the purchased model.

Crystal’s four touch positions are fixed — only the icon inserts and diffusers at each position are interchangeable. Icon selection changes the interface, not the electrical rating.

Back-unit specifications

One visible thermostat. Two wiring approaches.

Select the back-unit from the project’s electrical requirements first, then specify the Crystal or Classic faceplate on top. AC and DC versions drive different loads and have different terminals.

Electrical installation and load selection must follow the exact product manual and be completed by a qualified professional. Full wiring diagrams for both versions are in the manual, not reproduced here.

Installation

Prepare the thermostat and fit it correctly.

Isolate power before wiring, servicing or changing the back-unit or faceplate. Follow the exact AC or DC wiring page in the manual.

1
Select AC or DC back-unitThe mechanical frame is shared; the electrical board and pinout are different.
2
Wire the back-unitFollow the exact terminal diagram for the selected version.
3
Connect the model-specific G / I accessoryStandard model: external NTC 10K sensor. Model ending in -IR: external IR probe.
4
Fit icons and diffusersCrystal model only: press each diffuser and icon insert fully into position.
5
Attach the faceplateKeep it parallel to the wall and press or release only at the corners.
6
Power-cycle onceAfter final assembly, switch power off and on once to establish the capacitive baseline.
